The ability to understand, select, and test materials based on their properties is crucial for successful product design and manufacturing. Students develop skills in using standardized equipment and procedures to measure and test parts and materials though laboratory work. Methods used to protect materials and alter their properties are also investigated. Students learn about the physical and mechanical properties of metal, ceramic, polymer and composite engineering materials through readings, lectures, and conducting material testing.
Students registering for credit courses for the first time must declare a program at the point of registration. Declaring a program does not necessarily mean students must complete a program, individual courses may be taken for skill improvement and upgrading.
