Course description

Across countries, cultures and languages, cinema can entertain, enrage, enlighten and/or energize viewers through the power of story. To explore this power, students identify a variety of cinema genres and examine the ways in which films reflect or contradict the conventions of genre. Through the analysis of films styles and structures, students develop the critical skills necessary to become discerning viewers and explore the role cinema plays within society.

Students registering for credit courses for the first time must declare a program at the point of registration. Declaring a program does not necessarily mean students must complete a program, individual courses may be taken for skill improvement and upgrading.
