Course description

Students explore the essential healing elements of therapeutic relationships, practicing the skills required to assist individuals to achieve goals related to wellness, leisure, and quality of life. The development of empathic communication skills including the art of listening, empathic understanding, and the nature of ambivalence as it effects motivation to grow, adapt, and change is emphasized. Listening to client stories, students identify the individual's needs and apply empathic communication skills to convey understanding and to enhance motivation and goal acquisition.



Course Hours



Students registering for credit courses for the first time must declare a program at the point of registration. Declaring a program does not necessarily mean students must complete a program, individual courses may be taken for skill improvement and upgrading.
