In this experiential course, students are introduced to field sampling and the laboratory analysis of soils. Students learn sampling methodologies and descriptive techniques, sample preparation, analytical methods, and instrumentation for various chemical, physical and biological soil parameters, as well as data analysis and reporting. Emphasis is placed on developing field, laboratory, and technical communication skills. A field camp opportunity allows students to apply skills learned in class in a natural setting. While at field camp, students assess soil profiles, measure various data, and collect samples for lab analyses.
