Course description

Students in this course apply the Structured Query Language (SQL) at an advanced level using Microsoft SQL Server (MS SQL) as the primary database platform. Strong emphasis is placed on database design, including the development of detailed logical and physical models, normalization, and the creation of scalable, well‑structured data architectures. In addition to technical development, students explore the environmental impact of database infrastructure, including how data centers consume energy, generate heat, and require extensive cooling and power‑management systems. Students design and implement complex database solutions by creating model diagrams, definitions, stored procedures, functions, and triggers that extend the functionality and integrity of their data stores. Additional topics such as transaction processing, performance considerations, referential integrity, and exposure to alternative database systems are explored to prepare students for real‑world database development and administration

Students registering for credit courses for the first time must declare a program at the point of registration. Declaring a program does not necessarily mean students must complete a program, individual courses may be taken for skill improvement and upgrading.
