Course description

Students discuss professional process and practice in the context of human services through topics such as workplace culture, collaborative working relationships, conflict resolution, leadership styles, professionalism, and employment practices. Students are introduced to the requirements for field placement and prepare for placement by creating a career portfolio. Guest speakers from community agencies that hire Developmental Service Workers interact with students to share information about hiring practices and interviews. Students participate with students from other provincial DSW programs in professional development.

Students registering for credit courses for the first time must declare a program at the point of registration. Declaring a program does not necessarily mean students must complete a program, individual courses may be taken for skill improvement and upgrading.
