Course description

Students acquire the knowledge and skills needed to interpret medical orders, safely administer medications and treatments, assess medication effects, and support self-administration of medications for individuals with developmental disabilities. Students investigate commonly prescribed medications and practice safe medication and treatment administration and documentation procedures through lab practice and testing. Proper storage and disposal of medications according to legislation and workplace policies and procedures is discussed. Students identify the signs of substance use disorder and discuss harm reduction practices.
