Course description

Students examine the full spectrum of mental health and resiliency within the context of community safety, with a focus on the intersecting roles of community services, policing, and private security and investigations. Students explore ways in which mental health challenges shape interactions across these sectors, including crisis response, risk assessment, de-escalation, and referral pathways. Students identify and describe key concepts including signs, symptoms, and behaviour characteristics prevalent amongst individuals impacted by mental health issues. Through scenarios and applied learning, students analyze individuals experiencing mental health crises, considering ethical, legal, and professional responsibilities

Students registering for credit courses for the first time must declare a program at the point of registration. Declaring a program does not necessarily mean students must complete a program, individual courses may be taken for skill improvement and upgrading.
