Course description

Students are introduced to a wide variety of topics that are fundamental to the developmental services field. The historical attitudes, services and supports, legislation, scope of practice, Developmental Services Worker Code of Ethics, and Indigenous and international perspectives regarding inclusive rights and services are examined. Students complete a developmental services field interview and develop a philosophy of care and support that reflects the core values of inclusive community, advocacy, value-based support and person-directed planning.

Students registering for credit courses for the first time must declare a program at the point of registration. Declaring a program does not necessarily mean students must complete a program, individual courses may be taken for skill improvement and upgrading.
