National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women – Barrie, Owen Sound, Orillia, Midland, Muskoka, Orangeville and South Georgian Bay

Date:
December 06, 2023
Time:
12:00 to 1:00 p.m.

December 6 is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. As part of this day, Georgian campuses will host various activities to engage in to commemorate the women killed in 1989, and to build awareness of the ongoing gender-based violence experienced by many population in our communities. We recognize that gender-based violence can affect everyone, although certain populations are more likely to experience gender-based violence, including women and girls, Indigenous women, 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals, women living in remote communities, and women living with disabilities.

First, we mourn. Then we act for change.

Join us in the following activities on Wednesday, Dec. 6:

Barrie

  • Vigil from noon to 1 p.m. in the GCSA Lounge (C building first floor)

Owen Sound

  • Community vigil hosted downtown at Owen Sound Farmer’s Market from noon to 1 p.m.
  • A display will be set up on campus to honour the 14 women killed

Orillia, South Georgian Bay, Midland, Muskoka, and Orangeville
