In reality, our list of good news stories is much longer than 10, but here’s a look back at some of our favourite ones from throughout this year.

Georgian launches MyGCLife, a one-stop, self-serve student portal

Feb. 5 – MyGCLife is designed to enhance students’ Georgian experience! They can find answers to service-related questions faster, connect with student services, and track inquiries and tickets – all from ONE platform.

Georgian and SpacesShared offering unique affordable housing option for students

April 26 – Georgian College is working with SpacesShared, a technology platform that connects students who need a place to live with older adults living at home to create mutually beneficial sharing arrangements.

Personal Support Worker grad proves ‘it’s never too late to learn’

May 19 – Georgian alumna Laura Lemoine shares her experience going back to college as a mature student in the Personal Support Worker program at Owen Sound Campus.

A summer spent sailing – Brooke’s co-op experience

March 22 – Brooke Herrington, a Marine Technology – Navigation student, shares her co-op advice for other students, along with her own co-op experience at Algoma Central Corporation, sailing onboard the M.V. Algoma Mariner as a Navigation/Deck Cadet for almost 70 days.

Benefits of studying during the summer: a student perspective

March 21 – We talked to two summer semester students who told us why they think studying during the summer at Georgian helped them get ahead in their studies, reach their academic goals faster, and allowed them to take advantage of smaller class sizes – all while still experiencing the fun summer has to offer.

Georgian College introduces near-real time admission experience

Sept. 20 – Students applying to Georgian College can now expect to receive a faster and more personalized experience. The college recently launched a new admissions system with a new applicant portal that is user-friendly, intuitive and provides greater transparency for applicants during the college admissions process.

We saw this new system in action during Georgian’s Open House on Nov. 18, with several applicants receiving acceptances just minutes after applying. More than 3,100 guests came to that Open House, making it the largest in-person Open House in the college’s 56-year history. This marks two years in a row where Georgian has broken an event attendance record.

Georgian participating in ImpAct Climate Challenge

May 15 – One of the commitments in Georgian’s 2022-24 strategic plan is environmental accountability. Among several corporate sustainability initiatives driven by the Sustainable Development Goals, we were excited to also take part in the ImpAct Climate Challenge, started by Colleges and Institutes Canada. The single biggest contributor to climate change is greenhouse gas emissions and we need to do our part to reduce it.

Georgian community members honoured with Newcomer Recognition Awards

Nov. 2 – Georgian is proud of its diverse community and the incredible accomplishments of students, employees and alumni. Seven members of the Georgian community were honoured at the 11th annual Simcoe County Newcomer Recognition Awards.

Georgian unveils new paramedic training vehicle for student learning

May 26 – The new state-of-the-art training vehicle aims to enhance student learning in both the Paramedic diploma and Advanced Care Paramedic graduate certificate programs. It’s equipped with all the bells and whistles of standard ambulances, including lights and sirens, a radio for call details, and storage shelves and compartments.

Georgian celebrates 100,000 alumni milestone with ‘more than a number’ stories

Oct. 24 – Georgian College has officially reached 100,000 graduates, marking the significant milestone in its 56-year history during several convocation ceremonies Oct. 23 and 24.
