Rotary makes a sweet investment in student learning

An $8,000 donation from the Rotary Club of Barrie is the latest in a series of contributions helping Georgian’s campus beehive program grow.
The donation supported the expansion of the beehives at the Barrie Campus, along with new educational signage highlighting the important role bees play on campus and in our ecosystem. On Sept. 24, members of the Rotary Club of Barrie’s environmental committee visited Georgian to see the expanded hives and new signage firsthand.
As a Bee City Canada-certified campus, Georgian has hosted beehives for several years. The bees support hands-on learning in the Business – Agriculture and Culinary programs, providing a farm-to-table model for honey production while pollinating campus gardens that provide food used in the classroom.
The project is part of the Rotary Club of Barrie’s longstanding support of Georgian. Over the past 25 years, the club has contributed more than $500,000 to support students and initiatives across the college.
