Georgian students vie for $30,000 in awards at scholarship show

More than $30,000 in awards is up for grabs for Design and Visual Arts students during Georgian College’s annual Scholarship Show, running April 26 to May 15.

Today, April 15, is World Art Day, and top students from nine different programs are demonstrating their talent as they prepare to showcase their work at the Barrie Campus. A panel of industry experts will judge the pieces just prior to the show opening and reveal this year’s recipients of financial awards generously donated by industry and community partners.

“For many decades, Design and Visual Arts at Georgian College has recognized the outstanding work of our students at our annual Scholarship Show,” said Jason Hunter, Scholarship Show Chair. “We’re extremely grateful to our donors for their continued support and we invite the community to come celebrate with us.”

The panel of expert judges are from industries represented by each program in the show: Art and Design Fundamentals; Fine Art; Graphic Design; Interior Design; Interior Decorating; Jewellery Design, Bench Skills and Business; Kitchen and Bath Design; and Visual and Digital Media Arts. Hairstyling is also included which is one of Georgian’s Skilled Trades programs.

Members of the Georgian community and the public are welcome to attend the grand opening or stop by during the exhibition:

  • Grand opening: Friday, April 26, 7 to 9 p.m.
  • The show runs April 26 to May 15.
  • Show hours: Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Admission is free.

The work of all award winners and nominees will be on display throughout the Helen and Arch Brown Centre for Design and Visual Arts (D building, Georgian’s Barrie Campus, One Georgian Dr., Barrie, ON), including the Campus Gallery (room D140), the hallways, and rooms D140A, D116 and D123.
