Early days and early meetings of the Georgian College Board of Governors, by Penny Broderick
At one of the early meetings of the Georgian College Board of Governors, it was moved and passed that all staff hired between a date in 1967 and September 1968 be considered “founding members of the college.” Don McKillican, in his article Education in the Marketplace, refers to this meeting and gives more specific dates. I’m not sure of the first one, but am quite sure the “closing” date was September 1968. In general, the span was to be within the first year of the college’s existence. I started at the college in July 1968, and Lee Cameron started shortly after. We laughed about getting in “just under the wire” to give us founding member status – two maritime imports, Lee from Nova Scotia Technical College, and myself, from the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton.
I’m not sure when Don joined Georgian, but mostly remember that Robert Crawford (President), Lee, Al Cuzen, Don Garrie, Wayne Cunningham, Kaye Bentley, Muriel Perry (Harper), Betty Hanson, Dave Stock and others were there.

Give where you live – family matters fundraising campaign
Georgian’s Give where you live – family matters fundraising campaign was developed to directly support students facing a variety of financial challenges while attending college. Thank you to the Georgian College Retirees Club and individual retirees for supporting our students by making a pledge.
The option to support the family campaign is always available. If the timing is right for you to make a contribution, simply fill out the family campaign pledge form. You can choose the area you wish to support, the amount and the method of payment. Then, sign the pledge form and return the hard copy to Advancement and Community Development in room E200 at the Barrie Campus, or by email Kristin Weatherell.
Thank you for supporting Georgian students and helping them reach their academic goals.
