Georgian College Board of Governors renews contract for President and CEO Kevin Weaver

The Georgian College Board of Governors is pleased to announce that President and CEO Kevin Weaver will continue to lead the organization into 2032. Weaver was initially hired as President and CEO in 2022 for a five-year term. The board unanimously renewed Weaver’s term for another five years: April 1, 2027, to March 31, 2032. 

“Georgian’s Board of Governors is impressed by Kevin’s leadership and steadfast dedication to students, employees, partners and the communities we serve,” said outgoing Board Chair Kimberley Greenwood. “He’s guided the college through immense complexity and change and we’re confident in his ability to continue to lead as we meet game-changing commitments outlined in our strategic plan, ensure the college’s long-term success and sustainability, and expand Georgian’s impact.” 

Incoming Board Chair Carolyn McGoey Garvey agrees: “Since taking on the role of Georgian’s presidency, Kevin has broadened and strengthened the college’s local, regional and global reach through partnerships. These valued partnerships with community, industry and government ensure our students flourish, our graduates are future-ready, and our regional employers have access to a dynamic talent pipeline to meet current and anticipated workforce needs.” 

Weaver – alongside the Board of Governors – led the development of the college’s bold strategic plan, Game-Changing Innovation: Flourishing Students. Thriving Communities. The strategy positions Georgian to extend its influence as a recognized leader in immersive learning, applied research, unrivaled experiences, and as a catalyst for economic and social development. 

Among many achievements, he advanced Georgian’s role as a key collaborator across postsecondary and priority sectors, including health care, skilled trades, emerging technologies and clean energy. This includes Georgian joining forces with four other Ontario postsecondary institutions to establish the Canadian Energy Workforce Consortium, the expansion of the college’s Skilled Trades Building in Barrie, growth of its Centre for Industrial Simulation and Prototyping, amplified presence downtown Barrie, and graduation of the inaugural class of the college’s Honours Bachelor of Science – Nursing.  

Setting clear planning principles and advancing actions that support the college’s long-term sustainability, future growth and labour-market responsiveness, Weaver guided Georgian through significant organizational change. The college launched new market-driven programs and emphasized responsible stewardship and partnerships in decisions intended to create lasting benefit for our communities. These changes are already driving substantial outcomes for Georgian, including significant domestic growth, expanding reach, deepening impact, and positioning the college for continued success. 

As a people-centred leader, Weaver fosters an inclusive teaching, learning and working environment. He was instrumental in furthering the college’s military-connected and learner-centric strategy, including the college signing Memorandums of Collaboration with the Royal Canadian Navy and Canadian Forces Base Borden. Most recently, he championed the opening of the GuardMe Student Success and Care Centre, bringing together integral resources and services for students in one place to support their learning journey.  

Weaver took personal and college-wide steps to advance reconciliation, including revising Georgian’s Coat of Arms to incorporate Indigenous elements. He has also represented the college with organizations that champion public education initiatives promoting equity and diversity, encouraging collective action against racism and celebrating the contributions of immigrants in our region. 

“Georgian has proudly served for almost 60 years – recognized for our outstanding people, programs and partnerships,” said Weaver. “I’m honoured to continue to work alongside our board and exceptional team as we empower our students to reach their goals and meet the diverse needs of employers and our communities.” 

Weaver has called Georgian home since 2014. He joined the college as Dean of Technology and Visual Arts before serving as Vice President, International, Workforce Development and Partnerships, and Vice President, Academic. 

He holds a Master of Science from the University of Toronto, Honours Bachelor of Arts from Wilfrid Laurier University, and postgraduate certificate from Fleming College.
