Strategic Innovation for Leaders

BUSN 0272

Course description

This one-day innovation program is designed for middle managers and senior leaders who want to strengthen their ability to lead innovation in complex, fast-changing environments. Using the Basadur Profile as a core tool, the program builds awareness of individual innovation and problem-solving styles and how these preferences shape leadership behaviour.

The morning session focuses on individual approaches to innovation, helping participants understand how they personally generate, clarify, develop, and implement ideas, and how to adjust their style to be more effective in complex, ambiguous situations. In the afternoon, the focus shifts from the individual to the collective, exploring how diverse problem-solving styles can be leveraged at the team and group level to improve collaboration, decision-making, and execution. Participants examine the organizational systems, structures, and cultural enablers required for innovation to thrive, and leave with practical strategies to create conditions where creativity, disciplined problem-solving, and continuous improvement can take place consistently across the organization.

Through guided self-assessment, practical exercises, and working on real organizational problems, leaders gain insight into their own innovation preferences and how to leverage diverse thinking styles within their teams. The program emphasizes applied innovation leadership, helping participants move beyond ideas to action, reduce friction in decision-making, and create conditions where innovation can be consistently and effectively executed.
