Biography

Mina brings nearly two decades of experience across interior design practice and higher education, with expertise spanning residential, commercial design as well as historical/adaptive reuse design with focus on preservation of architectural heritage, cultural continuity, and sustainability.

Her interdisciplinary approach is reflected in her background that also includes product design and consulting services for custom and educational mobile robots.
Mina’s inclusive design range encompasses human-centered design, prototyping, artifact creation, using emerging technologies, participatory research and qualitative data analysis.

Her extensive teaching experience spans various design programs such as Interior Design Advanced Diploma, Honours Bachelor of Interior Design, Interior Decorating and Kitchen and Bath Design. Since the beginning of her career as an educator at Georgian College in 2010, Mina taught wide scope of studio, as well as many conceptual, technical and media presentation courses across programs.

As an educator, she helps students acquire essential design skills, guides students through programming and design development iterations, oversee contract documentation evolution and final presentations, as well as motivates students to engage in integrated design practices through peer reviews, mentor meetings, and other multidisciplinary collaborations.

Balancing structured guidance and student-let learning plays a major role in her instructional style. Structure provides clear framework and expectations building on the existing student knowledge, while projects with real life application and collaboration with peers provide opportunity for students to be active in their learning and develop critical thinking. This blend supported with iterative design approach through in-class evaluations, group critiques, peer reviews, one-on-one feedback with optional additional feedback personalizes student learning and promotes individual and creative approach to project resolution while fostering flexible and inclusive learning environment.

My design philosophy involves ethical approach, quest to innovation, and great passion for design!
As an educator, I am committed to promoting these values in the classroom, guiding students to develop ethical sense of responsibility towards the impact of interior design on people and environment.
I believe that all students are unique and need safe and stimulating environment to be able to thrive academically, which I try to facilitate by providing collaborative, interactive and flexible learning space.
Fun and safe environments where students feel recognized and supported promote creativity and innovation! This has been my highest teaching aspiration- a class bubbling with creative energy!
