BA, M. Ed., Professor
Coordinator – Jewellery Design, Bench Skills and Business, Professor

Biography

Barrie, Ontario based artist, goldsmith and educator, Andrea Wenckebach studied Fine Art and Cultural Anthropology at York University in Toronto, Ontario where she earned her Honours B.A. She holds a two-year diploma in Jewellery and Metals and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Goldsmithing from Georgian College, along with a Master of Education from Western University that greatly influences her practice.

She currently teaches in and coordinates the Jewellery, Design, Bench Skills and Business Program, and also teaches some history courses in both Graphic Design and Interior Design. She has previously taught a variety of other courses in numerous DVA programs including: Interior Design, Graphic Design, Fine Art and the Art Fundamentals Program. For several years Andrea coordinated Georgian’s Jewellery and Metals and Goldsmithing Programs which were transformed into the new, updated program she now coordinates.

Andrea’s roots are in fine art with a focus on pen and ink and dry media. However, the main thrust of her practice for the last twenty-five years has been goldsmithing. She specializes in stone carving and cutting and has won numerous national awards for pieces that feature her unusual lapidary skills. Since 2018, her practice has shifted back to include her fine art origins, and she has a particular interest in the intersection of history and current practices, and influences. Andrea’s current work is informed by the nexus between peoples’ lived experiences, the choices wrought by those experiences and the stories people tell that outline the shape of those connections.

My favorite thing about teaching interior design students is their incredible creativity, enthusiasm for learning, professionalism and dedication to their profession.
