Biography

Mark Halpren is a fractional finance leader providing early stage technology and venture capital firms the expertise and flexibility to build a capable finance function. He draws on experiences working with both high growth entities and large multinational companies. He founded FirstCFO Inc. nearly five years ago to deliver fractional finance services to early stage technology companies. He has supported accelerator programs as a mentor at Ryerson’s DMZ, U of T’s Hatchery and OCAD’s Imagination Catalyst. Through FirstCFO, Mark leads a team that acts as an extension of in-house leadership to provide expertise in finance led growth initiatives as well as controls, compliance, cash-management, forecasting and taxes. FirstCFO also manages day-to-day and forward-looking finance activities to deliver timely analysis to help businesses maximize its resources while fueling growth. The team is actively collaborating with company founders and leadership to provide finance and operational solutions that maximize the value of a recent or upcoming capital raise. Prior to founding FirstCFO Inc., Mark was the Director of Finance for a video game publisher listed on the TSX.V and Director of Finance at Achievers Inc. leading up to its successful exit. Mark also spent 12 years at Ernst & Young LLP in a variety of finance and accounting leadership roles. He holds CPA-CA and Certified Fraud Examiner designations.
