Course description

Students acquire a comprehensive understanding of the legislation, policies, and evidence-based practice used determine the essential elements for creating inclusive environments for school and/or licensed-based programs. Emphasis is placed upon creating a co-planned curriculum, developing a sense of community, and supporting a child-initiated program. Students investigate current curriculum and pedagogy as a guide to plan play-based learning experiences. Strategies are explored to promote independence for children who are learning to regulate and modify their own behaviour. Students apply best practices to prepare for their role as a responsive educator in school-age environments.

Students registering for credit courses for the first time must declare a program at the point of registration. Declaring a program does not necessarily mean students must complete a program, individual courses may be taken for skill improvement and upgrading.
