Cake design contest a sweet treat
March 09, 2012

Students in Georgian’s Culinary program displayed their baking prowess in a cake design competition that took place at the Barrie Campus March 6.
About 150 tickets were sold to dessert-lovers who voted for their favourites in the cake design category. A selected jury judged the cake testing, chocolate display and professional categories.

Students created some fabulous designs as part of this year’s competition at the Barrie Campus.

The student-run and organized event, now in its third year, received support from Georgian instructors Julie Vachon and Chef Anthony Borgo.

What started as a small, friendly contest among a few students has grown in size each year, says Vachon.

“Popular TV shows like Cake Boss and Cupcake Wars are piquing the interest of Georgian students,” she notes. “They’re excited to share their baking ability with others and elevate their skills in a fun, interactive way.”
