Orientation and Transition programs

Our Orientation and Transition programming is aimed to successfully transition and prepare you for your college experience.

We know the fall semester is not starting off as we expected due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but we’re busy planning a fun, engaging, and informative virtual orientation schedule for you to participate in!

Our programming will be delivered online in three stages, outlined below.

Step 1: Online Orientation page

We’re creating an online Orientation page on the student portal that includes information about supports and services, Head Start and Orientation Day schedules, student life activities and virtual events being hosted this semester. There is also a section dedicated to our international students about topics such as immigration, housing, insurance and cultural adjustment.

This page will be available to students on Monday, Aug. 24 on the student portal fall 2020 orientation page.

Step 2: Head Start, your first step to success

Head Start is our pre-orientation programming where you can connect and engage with Georgian services, supports and resources to ensure you are successful. You can ask questions you have prior to Orientation Day!

Head Start programming will take place between Aug. 31 and Sept 11. The full schedule will be emailed to students on Aug. 24.

Note: All sessions, events and activities will be hosted virtually this fall.

Welcome to Georgian! We know this semester isn’t starting off as we expected due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but we’re very happy to have you join the Georgian family and begin your studies. Our faculty and staff have been doing a great job of adapting courses and services for online learning and we can’t wait to connect you!

Regular class schedules will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 15 for all new students.

Peer Mentors: What we do!

Peer Mentors are Georgian students who:

  • are in their second semester or later
  • help first-year and new students transition to college life and campus community
  • support the adjustment to life at Georgian
  • help create a sense of belonging and community engagement (events and activities)
  • promote and support student well-being and the practice of self-care

Mentees (first-year/new students)

As a mentee (someone who is being mentored), you will be provided with a student contact to assist you with navigating the campus and its many services. Your mentor will provide you with tips to help you succeed and feel comfortable in your new learning environment.
