Georgian community deeply saddened by plane crash in Iran
January 10, 2020

Our thoughts are with the families and friends of the individuals who died in the crash of Ukraine International Airlines Flight PS752 on Wednesday.

Today, the Georgian community has come together to offer each other support and to reflect on the role postsecondary institutions play in connecting the world through teaching, learning, research and scholarship.

We extend heartfelt condolences to fellow students and colleagues at Ontario colleges and universities who are personally impacted by the tragedy. All of us at Georgian mourn the loss of the incredible talent and potential these individuals represented.

(Update as of Jan. 15, 2020)

Georgian’s partner guard.me is offering a new support to anyone who would like to speak with someone following the tragic plane crash in Iran.

While the standard keep.meSAFE help line and app remain open to eligible students, an additional Crisis Support Line has been opened for anyone in the community in need of emotional support in relation to these events. This Crisis Support Line is now open (24/7) and can be reached at 1.866.885.6540.

In addition, if any Georgian student would like to speak with a counsellor at the college, please call your local campus phone number and dial ext.1523. Georgian employees can access the Employee Assistance Program online or by calling 1.844.880.9143.

We want to ensure our students and staff are aware of all available supports during this difficult time. You are not alone. You can also visit the mental health and well-being pages on the student portal and employee portal.
