June 03, 2014

More than 10,000 visitors enjoyed three gloriously sunny days at the auto show on the weekend. The event, held May 30 to June 1 at the Barrie Campus, was hosted by Georgian College and the Automotive Business School of Canada. Now in its 29th year, the show represented consumers’ first chance to view new models in a sales-free environment.

Batman to visit Georgian College Auto Show

Auto Show organizers were thrilled to host the Brampton Batman and his Batmobile at this year’s auto show.

Highlights of this year’s show:

  • Student and staff appreciation day on Friday was an excellent way to kick off the event. Colleagues attended the show opening and many enjoyed delicious eats by food vendors.
  • The show made bat history: Batman and his Batmobile were a huge hit on Saturday. There were lots of kids wearing Batman shirts and capes or carrying Batman lunch kits.
  • 150 visitors tested out electric vehicles through the Electric Vehicle Experience.
  • The Pfaff Porsche autocross track was another popular attraction this year, raising $1,500 for Camp Bucko.
  • The auction raised close to $5,000, with a portion of the proceeds going to Automotive Business School of Canada student scholarships.
  • There was record attendance at the show and shine – everything from an amphicar to decked out Beetles and modified vehicles were included.
  • More than 27 automotive brands were represented.

Co-ordinating the show with an audience of more than 15,000 people and managing vehicles worth millions of dollars is a big responsibility. Fortunately, the student leaders of this year’s show are an extremely bright and talented group. The Georgian College Auto Show is the largest outdoor auto show and student lab in North America.

It is difficult to be unimpressed as the Barrie Campus is transformed by the village of tents, eager student teams, a YMCA-run KidZone and a multitude of stunning motor vehicles. This auto show is sure to leave everyone who attends with a lasting impression.
