Today, the provincial government declared a third provincial emergency and a province-wide Stay-at-Home Order, effective 12:01 a.m. Thursday, April 8. Although we’re under a stay-at-home order, which further restricts certain activities, work and attending postsecondary are currently deemed permissible under this provincial regulation. All in-person learning will continue as scheduled at Georgian campuses.
If your program is fully remote for winter semester, it will continue to be offered remotely. Our goal remains to complete the winter semester, for most programs, by April 23, as previously scheduled.
Georgian has been operating using the heightened restrictions in grey-lockdown since the start of the winter semester and with few exceptions, didn’t change anything as our local regions moved between the various levels of the COVID-19 response framework.
Students should check Blackboard to confirm any scheduling changes that might be required as a result of this announcement.
Travel letters for work or school
We understand travelling during this time can come with some heightened anxiety should you be questioned by authorities. Employees can request a travel letter from their immediate manager. These will be available to managers on the employee portal.
To confirm their need to travel for school, students can download their letter of enrolment by following these steps:
- Login to the student portal
- From the quick links list, click on Document Hub
- Click on Request a Letter
- Select the term you want the letter for
- Click on Request
Note: your letter will appear in the document hub letter list as a PDF for you to download, usually within 30 minutes, but could be up to 48 hours during peak times.
For anyone scheduled to be on-campus during summer term beginning May 17, we expect to proceed as planned, however we’ll continue to follow the government’s directives and provide updates closer to the start of the term.
Our protocols are keeping us safe
All Georgian health and safety protocols continue to be in place and are expected to be followed while on-campus or to report a positive COVID-19 test if you’ve been on campus. Our protocols have been working because you’ve embraced completing the COVID-19 screening app, wearing a mask while indoors, maintaining a safe distance from others, and following handwashing and lab protocols.
You’ve got this Grizzlies!
This isn’t what any of us wanted for our winter semester, but we’ve shown we’re committed to doing what’s necessary to help slow the transmission of this terrible virus. Thanks to our resilient Grizzly spirit, we continue to adapt and stay committed to goals – while also ensuring we stay safe.
