What’s open and closed during the holidays 2021

On Dec. 15, this post was updated to reflect what’s open/closed and which services are available remotely or in person leading up to the Dec. 23 holiday closure. The changes are due to the evolving nature of the pandemic and Georgian’s part to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

All seven of Georgian’s campuses (including the downtown Barrie location) will close for the 2021 holiday season at noon on Thursday, Dec. 23 and re-open on Monday, Jan. 3, 2022.

Some areas will continue to offer service (remotely or in person) or have adjusted hours during this time. These are outlined below.

Athletic and Fitness Centres

  • The Barrie Athletic & Fitness Centre and Owen Sound Fitness Centre will be closed as of Dec. 16.
  • The Orillia Fitness Centre remains closed at this time.

Career and Employment Community Services (CECS)

  • Service across all three locations (Barrie, Orangeville and Orillia) will be available on the following dates:
  • Dec. 16 to 17 – 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (remote)
  • Dec. 18 to 19 – closed
  • Dec. 20 to 22 – 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (remote)
  • Dec. 23 – 8:30 a.m. to noon. (remote)
  • Dec. 24 to 28 – closed
  • Dec. 29 – 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (remote)
  • Dec. 30 – 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (remote)
  • Dec. 31 to Jan. 2 – closed
  • Jan. 3 – re-open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Domestic student recruitment

  • Georgian’s domestic student recruitment team will be available remotely by phone and email for inquiries from prospective students and applicants on the following dates:
    • Dec. 23 – 8:30 a.m. to noon (remote)
    • Dec. 24 to 26 – closed
    • Dec. 27 to 31 – 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (remote)
    • Jan. 1 to 2 – closed
    • Jan. 3 – re-open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Food services

  • The Last Class (TLC) at the Barrie Campus will be closed as of Dec. 16 and will re-open on Jan. 10, 2022. Visit the TLC webpage for more information.
  • All other food services remain closed at this time.

Georgian Stores

  • Georgian Stores will be closed for in-person shopping as of Dec. 16.
  • There is an option to arrange a time pick up your purchase at the Barrie Campus after you’ve placed your online order.

International Centre

  • From Dec. 16 to 23, all international services will be available remotely.
  • The Segal International Centre will close at noon on Dec. 23 and will re-open on Jan. 3, 2022.

  • Supports for international students arriving in Canada during the holiday break:
    • For emergencies, please email [email protected]. This account will be checked regularly during the holiday closure.
    • If you are at the airport and have booked a Georgian quarantine package, please contact the Maple Assist team at 1.437.223.2223.
    • If you have questions about arriving to Canada, the quarantine plan, or are in quarantine and require assistance, please email [email protected]. This account will be checked regularly during the holiday closure.
    • For any homestay emergencies (e.g. cancellations, unable to connect with student or host family), please call 705.481.7571 or toll-free 1.877.441.4443 and dial 1 for the emergency line.

Libraries

  • From Dec. 16 to 23, library space will be available for in-person study. Research, writing, math and tutoring supports will be available remotely only.
  • All campus libraries (excluding Midland, which remains closed) and Academic Success online services and mailboxes will close at noon on Dec. 23 and will re-open on Jan. 3, 2022.
  • Website and research databases remain live 24/7.

Office of the Registrar

  • Limited in-person services will be available through the Office of the Registrar from Dec. 16 to 17.
  • Remote service will be available from Dec. 20 to 23.
  • The office will close at noon on Dec. 23 and re-open on Jan. 3, 2022.
