The Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) announced its men’s rugby award winners for the 2021 season on Wednesday, which included several student-athletes from the Georgian Grizzlies.
The awards were highlighted by third-year Grizzlies second-row Jed Bricknell, who was named as the co-winner of the OCAA’s men’s rugby player of the year award.
The Alliston resident was instrumental in helping lead the Grizzlies to their ninth consecutive winning season with a 2-1-1 record. Jed led Georgian in tackles along with steals while also being versatile by playing multiple positions.
His leadership was on display all season as he worked with rookie players and made all players around him better.
Jed shares the award with Travis Zelinski from St. Lawrence College.
James Robb-Kennedy made an immediate impact with the Grizzlies this season and was named the OCAA’s men’s rugby rookie of the year.
The Barrie resident scored one try for the Grizzlies in four regular season games.
A total of four Grizzlies players were named OCAA all-stars with Jed: James Robb-Kennedy, Daniel Martyn (Barrie) and Donovan Jacko (Brampton) each receiving the honour.
For Donovan, it is his third straight season earning an OCAA all-star award.
