?Students on beach in Costa Rica

Nine Hospitality, Tourism and Recreation students had an action-packed adventure travelling to Costa Rica over the winter break with Green Action, an organization that introduces students to sustainable eco and adventure travel.

Highlights of the week included a visit to a live volcano, whitewater rafting, zip trekking through a jungle canopy and a hike to an indigenous village set upon a scenic mountain top. The group also volunteered with a women’s co-operative where they learned dance moves native to the area and how to prepare local cuisine, including chocolate from raw cacao beans.

The group then travelled east from San Jose to the Caribbean coast, accompanied by tour guides Marieloz and Maguil, who told great stories about the local culture and surroundings. The group enjoyed the Caribbean surfing village culture as well as the excellent accommodation and food options.

This year’s trip was led by Anne Green. Many thanks to Anne, as well as Jane Banks, Joe Fruchter and all staff who helped promote and support the trip. It was a great experience enjoyed by all!
