Welland, ON – September 23rd, 2013 – For Georgian Grizzlies men’s golfer Colton Kalkanis winning tournaments has become almost common practice.
The second year Grizzly won his second Ontario Colleges Athletic Association event in the spam of eight days Monday afternoon at the Niagara College Invitational in Welland, Ontario.
Kalkanis shot a 3-under 69 to win the tournament by three strokes. The Barrie native has now won two of the three OCAA events he has competed in this season.
The Grizzlies men’s team finished in 2nd place, four strokes behind the Humber College team at the event.
On the women’s side, Georgian freshman Cory Pond (Simcoe) finished in second place shooting an 82 just two strokes off the pace Adrienne D’Alessio of Humber. Along with teammate Chloe Wells (Mississauga) the Georgian team finished in second place at the event.
Kalkanis was named Grizzlies Athlete of the Week on Monday for his first and fifth place finishes the week prior and has put himself right back in contention for the award next week with the Niagara Invitational win.
Kalkanis will be looking for his third win when he and the golf team travels on Thursday to take part in the Durham Invitational which takes place at Lakeridge Links in Brooklin, Ontario. More importantly it will be the golf team’s final tune prior to the OCAA Championships which take place from September 30th through October 2nd hosted by Wilfrid Laurier University- Brantford.
