Men’s indoor soccer player Mortaza Ahmadzai has been named Georgian Grizzlies Athlete of the Week after helping lead his team to the finals of the Grizzlies invitational this past week.
Ahmadzai, a student in the aviation management program, scored three goals throughout the tournament on Friday.
The first year player from Barrie had a critical goal in the Grizzlies 2-1 over the Sault Cougars in the round robin. He also had Georgian’s only two goals in the championship final which the Grizzlies eventually lost to the Centennial Colts on penalty kicks by a 3-2 score.
Also in consideration for this week’s award was women’s badminton player Sharon Lu who competed at the OCAA Championship, and two sport athlete Eden Young who finished up her women’s basketball schedule on Wednesday and then played a solid tournament for the women’s indoor soccer team on Friday including a nice goal in the Grizzlies 2-1 win over the Sault in the round robin.
