Barrie, ON – September 23rd, 2013 – Second year men’s golfer Colton Kalkanis was named the Georgian Grizzlies Athlete of the Week for the week ending September 22nd.
Kalkanis competed in two Ontario Colleges Athletic Association events this past week with impressive results.
The Barrie native opened the week by winning the individual title at the Fleming Invitational in Janetville, Ontario by shooting a 2-under 70 on the day, finishing four strokes ahead of the 2nd place finisher.
He was instrumental in leading the men’s golf team to be the overall winner at the event with Georgian taking the team title by three strokes over Fanshawe College.
Kalkanis then followed that performance up with a tie for 5th place at the Fanshawe Invitational this past Saturday. In wet and raining conditions, the 2nd year Golf Operations student shot a 2-over 74 which helped the Grizzlies to a 3rd place team finish at the event.
Last year’s Georgian Male Athlete of the Year is off to a great start to the season as he looks to defend his OCAA and Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championships he won last season.
Also in contention for the award this week were Colton’s teammate Clayton Connor (Newmarket), Cross Country Runner Evan Lynch (Alliston), and men’s rugby player Austin St. Amant (Tiny).
