The Georgian Grizzlies welcomed ten teams from nine different OCAA schools to compete in the Grizzlies Team Challenge on Friday Oct. 31 and Saturday Nov. 1 at the Georgian Athletic Centre.
To win each round teams face one opposing school and earn one point for victories in each discipline, men’s & women’s singles and men’s, women’s and mixed doubles.
The Halloween themed event set the mood for some spirited play between the competitors. During round robin play the Humber Hawks were the only undefeated team at 5-0, winning the “Zombie” pool.
The Hawks continued their impressive play in the playoff rounds defeating Seneca’s “B” team 5-2 in the semi -final and defeated the Sting’s “A” team in the final by a thrilling 4-3 score.
The Seneca Sting had a strong showing as they sent two teams to compete in the event and finished in second and fourth respectively. The Redeemer Royals earned a third place finish after defeating the Sting’s “B” team 5-2.
The host team from Georgian finished with a winning record at the event. After finishing the round robin with a 3-2 record the Grizzlies defeated the Mohawk Mountaineers 5-2 to finish the tournament in fifth place.
The next OCAA invitational event takes place Nov. 14 to 16, hosted by Fanshawe College.
