The Georgian Grizzlies women’s volleyball team showed well at the Niagara College Invitational in their final tournament before the OCAA regular season gets underway this week.
The Grizzlies opened the tournament strong with a victory over the Fanshawe Falcons by a three-one score (25-18, 23-25, 25-20, 25-21). Georgian had a much tougher time with the seven-time defending OCAA gold medalists from Humber in their second match, as the Grizzlies were swept three-zero (25-23, 25-12, 25-15).
On day two of the tournament the Grizzlies lost a close match with Canadore three-two (25-21, 25-23, 15-25, 22-25, 15-13) but showed great resiliency in battling back from being down two sets to lose by just a couple of points.
Georgian ended the tournament on a high note as they defeated the Seneca Sting three-one (23-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-21) to finish the tournament in fifth place.
The Grizzlies will open their 2014 OCAA regular season this Friday with their home opener when they host the George Brown Huskies at the Georgian Athletic Centre at 6 p.m.
