The Georgian Grizzlies volleyball teams hosted the Algonquin Thunder on Saturday afternoon at the Georgian Athletic Centre in an important double header.
The Grizzlies women dropped a tough opening set 26-24 to start their match but took over in impressive style the rest of the way.
Georgian, led by Hannah Campbell (Midland) and her 16 points on the afternoon, rallied off three straight set wins to take the match 3-1 (24-26, 25-13, 25-20, 25-18).
Allison Marshall (Orillia) had another strong game with 14 points while Mackenzie Roy (Barrie) posted 23 digs and 31 assists.
The win is the Grizzlies fourth straight and they hold onto a tie atop the east division standings with a 6-1 record on the season.
On the men’s side, the Grizzlies continue to have bad luck.
Georgian put forth a good effort in each of the three sets but were unable to get ahead in any of them as they fell to Algonquin 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-21).
The Thunder were led by Josh Issac (Ottawa) who had a game high 14 points and fellow rookie Luke Amos (Whitby) who had 12 points.
Jason Grimm (Orangeville) was the Grizzlies top scorer with 12 points while Matt Kerr (Wingham) had 9 points in the loss.
Both Grizzlies volleyball teams will be back in action on Sunday afternoon when they host the La Cité Coyotes at the Georgian Athletic Centre.
