Barrie, ON – October 8th, 2013 – The Georgian Grizzlies men’s and women’s volleyball teams hosted the Redeemer Royals for a pair of exhibition matches prior to the OCAA regular season Wednesday night at the Georgian Athletic Centre.
The women’s team had a thrilling five set match that came right down to the wire. After dropping the first set 25-23 to Redeemer, the Grizzlies came right back taking the next two sets in convincing fashion 25-11 and 25-14 to take a 2-1 lead.
Not to be outdone, the Royals came back strong in the fourth set putting together a 25-15 win to set up a fifth set tiebreaker. Both teams went back and forth until after a marathon tiebreak, Redeemer was able to edge the Grizzlies 21-19 to take the match 3-2.
In the men’s game the Grizzlies had their hands full with the Royals.
Georgian continuously put up a valiant effort but couldn’t get over the hump falling to the Royals 3-1 (25-18, 20-25, 25-18, 25-22).
The men’s team will next compete in the Northern Cup hosted by Cambrian College in Sudbury on October 18th-19th. The Grizzlies women’s team will be travelling to Halifax to face Mount Saint Vincent University on October 18th in an exhibition match before participating in the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) Tip-Off Tournament on October 19th and 20th hosted by the Dalhousie Agricultural Campus in Truro, Nova Scotia.
Both the men’s and women’s teams will open their OCAA regular season on Friday, October 25th when they host the Loyalist Lancers at the Georgian Athletic Centre in Barrie.
