The Georgian College athletic department has hired Andrew Broeren as the new head coach of the women’s basketball varsity program.
Broeren brings a wealth of experience coaching at various levels including with Ontario Basketball, the Barrie Royals and at St. Joseph’s Secondary School.
Last season he also served as an assistant coach with the Georgian Grizzlies men’s basketball team which qualified for the provincial championships.
“We were incredibly impressed with Andrew’s vision and plan for the upcoming season and the years ahead,” said Manager of Athletics Michele McConney. “We feel his leadership and dedication will be a huge asset to help develop our student athletes both on the court and in the classroom.”
Broeren believes in strong preparation to achieve both team and individual goals.
“For me it’s about the details and what you do leading up to prepare that makes the real difference come game time,” said Broeren “I couldn’t be more excited to get started and appreciative of the opportunity.”
The Grizzlies women’s basketball regular season gets underway on Oct. 21 when Georgian hosts the Durham Lords. Tryouts for this year’s team will take place for full-time students from Sept 14-15 at the Georgian Athletic Centre on the Barrie Campus.
