Barrie, ON – January 26th, 2013 – There was a big match feel Saturday afternoon at the Georgian Athletic Centre for the Grizzlies game against the Durham Lords and for good reason.
Both teams have shown so far in their OCAA season’s that they are among the elite in the east division with the Lords sitting in first place with a 13-1 record and the Grizzlies sitting in third with an 11-3 record.
The Grizzlies got off to a slow start trailing 21-13 in the first set but a timeout by Head Coach Brad Graham got Georgian back on track and battle hard but ultimately fell 25-21.
Unfortunately for the Grizzlies the second set was much like the first with Georgian falling behind and losing the set 25-10.
With their backs against the wall the Grizzlies finally got it going with some strong play by Erin McClean and Kelsey Buckley to earn a 25-17 third set win.
That was as close as the Grizzlies comeback bid would get them as they were in tight with Durham but were outmatched in the end by a 25-21 score.
Allison Marshall was solid for the Grizzlies again posting 12 points (8 kills, 2 serving aces and 1 stuff block) while Natalie Buck had 9 kills to lead the team.
The Grizzlies will have another big match Sunday at noon when they host the Cambrian Golden Shield who entering Saturday had an 11-2 record.
