Peterborough, ON – February 22nd, 2013 – The Georgian Grizzlies rebounded quickly at the 2013 OCAA Women’s Volleyball Championships hosted by Trent University in Peterborough.

After dropping a tough match to a very good Nipissing Lakers team 3-1 on Thursday, the Grizzlies were given a tough task in facing the Durham Lords Friday who were upset by Redeemer in their first match.

The Grizzlies have had their troubles against the Lords this season, who finished in first place in the east division with an 18-2 record. Two of Georgian’s five losses in their OCAA regular season were to the team from Oshawa.

This time was different, a focused and determined group from Georgian led by OCAA first team all-star Natalie Buck dominated play against their rivals right from the outset.

Coming out of the gate early the Grizzlies were able to get up 9-3 early and continued the pressure on the Lords on their way to a 25-10 first set win.

The Grizzlies matched their effort in the 2nd set getting out to an early lead and taking the set 25-17.

With their backs against the ropes Durham battled hard to try and get back in it but Georgian was too strong on this day as they put the Lords away in straight sets after a 25-10 final set to take the match 3-0.

For her effort Hannah Campbell was named player of the game for the Grizzlies. The Midland, ON native was excellent on serve and had some big blocks for Georgian.

With the win the Grizzlies will now play in the semi-finals for the bronze medal against a yet to be determined opponent Saturday at 11am. The bronze medal game is set for later that afternoon at 2pm.
