Toronto, ON – January 5th, 2013 – The Grizzlies men’s basketball team looked to jump start their second half with a good showing at the George Brown Invitational tournament this past weekend in Toronto.
Georgian did just that taking away some good positives to build on as they get set for the stretch drive of the OCAA season which starts up again this weekend.
The Grizzlies opened the tournament in a tight battle with Fanshawe Friday night. The game featured many lead changes with the Grizzlies getting up early in the first quarter but Fanshawe battling back and holding a 43-36 lead at halftime.
Both teams battled back and forth in the second half in a game that came right down to the wire, but neither team could gain the advantage with the fourth ending in a 77-77 tie.
In overtime Fanshawe was able to make some clutch shots to pull away from the Grizzlies to win the game 90-81.
Brandon Seales led the Grizzlies in scoring with 22 points while Ben Dance and Jevon Francis each had 13 points in the loss.
The Grizzlies refocused on Saturday in their game against St. Lawrence – Kingston coming up with a 68-64 victory to earn a spot in the consolation final.
Georgian trailed in the fourth quarter 49-41 but after an 18-2 run, the Grizzlies were able to complete the comeback.
Justin Mitchell led the team with 20 points including a big fourth quarter where he scored 14 points to give the Grizzlies the win.
In the consolation final the Grizzlies ran up against a tough REDA team that gave Georgian all they could handle in a 95-64 victory.
Glody Madymba led the Grizzlies with 13 points while Ben Dance added 10 in the loss.
The Grizzlies will get set for the second half of the OCAA season which gets underway this weekend when they travel for a pair of games against Loyalist and St. Lawrence- Kingston on Saturday and Sunday.
Georgian’s first home game of the second half will take place on Wednesday, January 23rd when they host the Durham Lords at 8pm.
