Fennell, a student in the Laurentian @ Georgian psychology program, finished in 18th place in Calgary at the championship that brought together the top runners from across the nation.
The native of Aurora finished the 8km course in a time of 28:37, just a minute and a half back of the top spot in a race with over one hundred runners.
Fennell had previously been named athlete of the week on Oct. 26 for finishing 6th at the provincial championships.
Also in consideration for this week’s award was women’s basketball player Kelsey Dunkeld (Barrie) who led her team to their first win of the season with 18 points, Teq Zwarych (Whitby) who had two double-doubles in consecutive wins for the Grizzlies men’s basketball team and women’s volleyball player Hannah Campbell who had a team high 14 points in the Grizzlies 3-1 win over Durham on Friday.
