The Georgian Grizzlies Men’s Rugby Team will open their 2015 home slate on Saturday when they host the Sheridan Bruins at Barrie Community Sports Complex.
The Grizzlies opened the season last weekend with a convincing 34-5 road victory over the Conestoga Condors, marking the fourth straight year the program has opened with a win. Leading the way were Robin and Albert Calamatta, scoring a pair of tries each en route to a 29-0 lead at the half. Newcomer Nana Ntim joined the duo with a pair of tries of his own, earning OCAA Athlete of the Week honors in the process.
Georgian is looking to continue their dominance at home where they have won four consecutive matches and five of six dating back to 2013. Besides the Calamatta brothers, key returnees include Andrew Noble (an OCAA Player of the Week last season), Drew Currie and Matt Black. John Daggett, entering his fourth year as Head Coach, says that newcomers Edwin Sarfo and Cullen Fawcett could also play crucial roles early.
The Grizzlies will be looking for their sixth straight win against the Bruins and have nearly two weeks off after Saturday, magnifying the home opener’s importance. Kick-off is set for 1pm at Barrie Community Sports Complex.
