Barrie, ON – November 27th, 2013 – It was a tough night for the Georgian Grizzlies men’s and women’s basketball teams as they hosted the Durham Lords Wednesday night at the Georgian College Athletic Centre in Barrie.
Coming off a dramatic buzzer beater to win their last game Friday night the Grizzlies men’s team couldn’t find the same energy they had in that contest.
Georgian battled but found themselves trailing and trying to play catch-up for most of the night falling 87-74.
The Grizzlies couldn’t find an answer for Durham’s veteran point guard Ajahmo Clarke who had a game high 34 points.
Teq Zwarych (Whitby) led the Grizzlies in with 16 points and in rebounds with 12 while second year forward Glody Madymba had a solid effort off the bench scoring 15.
Georgian now holds a 5-4 record on the season to sit in 5th place in the OCAA east division standings.
On the women’s side Georgian had another incredible effort from Barrie’s Summer Bly.
Last week’s Grizzlies athlete of the week had a season high 27 points along with 19 rebounds and 6 blocks.
Georgian also had a good effort from Collingwood native Erial Barnard who had 10 points to give her double digits in points for the second straight game.
The Lords were too much for the Grizzlies to handle as they fell 57-43.
Both Grizzlies basketball team’s will wrap up the first half of their OCAA season’s Wednesday night when they travel to face the Centennial Colts in Scarborough.
