Oshawa, ON – One team had a tough start and one had a tough finish but in both cases it was trouble for the Georgian Grizzlies men’s and women’s basketball teams when they travelled to face the Durham Lords on Friday night in Oshawa.
The Grizzlies men’s team put together a good road game but the Lords were able to hang around and then strike late against Georgian.
In a game that featured thirteen lead changes the Grizzlies hoped to have the win leading by 5 points late in the fourth quarter but Durham staged a late rally and eventually take the lead.
Georgian responded by hitting a late two pointer to send the game to overtime with an 80-80 score.
In overtime both teams continued to battle but in the end Durham pulled ahead at the end to take the win 93-89.
Georgian’s Justin Mitchell (Newmarket) had a season high 33 points in the loss as the Grizzlies record fell to 6-5 on the season.
The Grizzlies women’s team struggled out of the gate against the Lords and were unable to find their scoring touch as they fell 64-42.
Durham got out to a 19-8 lead in the first quarter and Georgian spent the rest of the game playing catch-up as they shot under 30% for the game.
Katie Wiggins (Belleville) and Erial Barnard (Collingwood) each had a team high 9 points for the Grizzlies.
Both the Grizzlies men’s and women’s teams will continue their road trip when they face the Fleming Knights Saturday afternoon in Peterborough.
