Georgian’s Clayton Connor is one of four Grizzlies in the top 20 at the OCAA Golf Championships after two rounds

Paris, ON – October 1st, 2013 – The Georgian Grizzlies men’s and women’s golf teams found day two of the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Provincial Championships more challenging than day one of the event, due to some stiff competition from other colleges.

After setting the pace on the men’s individual side in day one, Grizzlies Colton Kalkanis and Alex Wilson posted rounds of 75 and 79 respectively on day two, which allowed Humber College’s Christian McCullough to overtake the lead after posting a 4-under round of 68.

Last year’s defending individual champions Colton Kalkanis now sits in third place, six strokes off the lead.

Wilson is tied for 5th spot after his round and the Grizzlies have all of their golfers sitting in the top 20 at the event with Michel Sonnenburg (T-8th), Clayton Connor (12th), and Sterling Emery (T-17th) rounding out the field.

As a team the Grizzlies are sitting in second place ahead of the Niagara Knights team by 17 strokes.

Georgian’s Chloe Wells posted the second best round of the day on the women’s side with an 82 to move her into second place in the individual competition. Cory Pond put together a round of 91 which puts her in fourth place just one stroke out of 3rd spot.

With their strong rounds the women’s team is just seven strokes behind the leaders from Humber heading into the third and final round on Wednesday at the Paris Grand Golf Club in Paris, Ontario.
