Georgian Grizzlies women’s basketball player Summer Bly and men’s player Teq Zwarych were recognized for their tremendous achievements on the court this season.
Bly, a native of Barrie, was named an Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) East Division First Team All-Star as well as the East Division’s Defensive Player of the Year.
The Human Resources Management student didn’t miss a beat this year after not playing the previous two seasons for the Grizzlies. The former Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association All-Canadian and OCAA Player of the Year picked up where she left off, scoring 17.5 points per game (fifth best in the OCAA), while also leading the league in rebounds (191), blocks (59) and was fifth in steals with 45.
She finished her career as the fifth leading scorer in OCAA history and Georgian’s all-time leading scorer with 950 points.
Bly was presented with the awards in Hamilton on Thursday morning as part of the 2014 Belairdirect OCAA Women’s Basketball Championship, hosted by Mohawk College.
Teq Zwarych had a big first season for the Grizzlies which didn’t go unnoticed as he was named the OCAA East Division’s Rookie of the Year. As part of the OCAA East Division All Rookie Team, he was recognized as an OCAA East Division Second Team All-Star.
The native of Whitby led the Grizzlies in scoring (18th in OCAA) with an average of 15.8 points per game, rebounds with 186 (third in OCAA) and blocks with 14 (T-14th in OCAA).
The Automotive Management student was presented with his awards in Mississauga on Wednesday evening as part of the 2014 Belairdirect OCAA Men’s Basketball Championship, hosted by Sheridan College.
