Men’s golfer Blake Ulrich has been named Georgian Grizzlies Athlete of the Week after helping his team to a silver medal at the OCAA Golf Championships.
Ulrich, a student in the Bachelor of Business in Golf Management program finished as the top Grizzlies men’s golfer at the provincials and in a tie for ninth overall at the event.
The native of Peterborough showed tremendous resiliency after opening the final round of play shooting a five-over on the first hole but rebounded to shoot even on the day. He capped off the round with a pair of crucial birdies on the final two holes to seal the silver medal for the Grizzlies and earning the team a berth at the Nationals.
The PING Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Golf National Championships will take place October 14 to 17 at the Lorette Golf Club in Quebec City.
Also in consideration for this week’s award was women’s volleyball player Hannah Campbell who helped the Grizzlies to victory at the Fanshawe Invitational and was named tournament MVP, cross country runner Ryan Fennell who finished in sixth place at the Seneca Invitational and men’s basketball player Mark Brown who was a tournament all-star at the St. Lawrence Invitational.
