Georgian helps lonely desks find student entrepreneurs
February 18, 2014

Sometimes all it takes to get an idea off the ground is a few basic resources. That’s why Georgian College is sponsoring two TrepDesks – work spaces for ambitious and entrepreneurial students in the Barrie community who are striving to make burgeoning businesses a reality. TrepDesks are an initiative of The Creative Space, a coworking facility and hub for entrepreneurs and startups.

Students who are interested in gaining access to a TrepDesk should fill out an application form. These small business launch pads are available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. They come with Wi-Fi and meeting space access, as well as mentorship and networking opportunities.

Part-time Georgian student Jon Grootveld is currently using one the desks, located at The Creative Space. He hopes to start a delivery company for seniors and busy professionals.

Georgian’s TrepDesks are supported by the Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management program, a practical and action-oriented one-year graduate certificate designed to give students the skills they need to launch and manage a small business.

If your organization wants to sponsor a Trep Desk for $250/month and help contribute to someone’s career and our local economy, drop by the Creative Space at 12 Dunlop St. E., in Barrie.
