Biography

Lidia van Zyl is the owner and principal designer at LVZ Design, a boutique design firm in Innisfil, ON. Her firm has served clients for more than 15 years and focusses mainly on residential design, specifically new build projects. Her design approach and aesthetic are shaped by her South African roots, Canadian surroundings and her background as an urban planner. Aside from a degree in urban planning, Lidia also holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and a master’s degree in rural development. She recently completed her Ontario Building Code exam (BCIN) with the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing (MMAH).

Lidia joined the interior design faculty at Georgian as a part-time professor. She has been a member of the advisory board in the Interior Decorating and Bachelor of Interior Design programs for several years. Lidia’s design work has been featured in several magazines, both nationally and internationally.

Design is simultaneously an appreciation for the smallest of details, while having the talent to make all the elements come together for a functional and beautiful end result. Every project and client are unique, and therefore design will always be fascinating to me. I want to share this fascination with my students.
