As soon as you graduate, you automatically become a member of the Georgian College Alumni Association!
It is my honour to represent the Alumni Association Executive Council! My journey as a Georgian alum began in 1991, when I completed the Business Administration – Accounting program, and it is an honour to be a representative for the collective voice of our Georgian alumni community.
In the Nov. issue of The Loop, you’ll see that seven Georgian alumni were celebrated Nov. 18 at the Colleges Ontario Premier’s Awards for their post-Georgian success, and for the impact that each of them is having on their industries and the world around them.
You’ll also see in this issue of The Loop that Georgian’s current President and CEO, Dr. MaryLynn West-Moynes has announced that she will retire this coming June, after more than three decades of service to higher education.
This month I was asked to reflect on my reasons for volunteering with our Alumni Association, and to share why Georgian is still so important to me. In short – joining the council has provided me an opportunity to contribute to an organization that has helped me so much.
I encourage you to stay connected with your alma mater as well. Georgian and our Alumni Association is here to support you in whatever ways we can. We also want to hear what you’ve been up to! Share your successes, stories and updates. Email [email protected] or log on to our exclusive alumni network, GeorgianAlumni.ca.
Sending you and your loved ones warm wishes for the season ahead.
Hilary Anderson (class of 1991)
After graduating from the three-year Business Accounting – Co-op program, Hilary worked for the City of London for approximately 10 years. Her co-op terms were with the City of Guelph, which gave her the necessary experience to begin employment as a manager with the City of London within months of graduating. She carried on completing her CGA, CPA and worked in health care for more than 20 years. Seeking a change, she recently transitioned into the financial services industry, and is grateful for an education with transferrable skills. Hilary lives in London with her husband and six children, acknowledging that, “My happiest times are when they are all at home, and there is lots of noise and laughter.,” she says.
