Georgian College receives $1.5-million gift from Bernick family

Henry BernickGeorgian College is blazing a new trail in the academic sector by becoming the first college in Ontario to secure a $1-million endowed chair.

The donation has been made by Henry Bernick, an entrepreneur and Barrie’s first land developer, who has been instrumental in the growth of the local real estate market since the 1950s. He has given the gift, which includes an additional $500,000 to create the Henry Bernick Entrepreneurship Centre, with a goal of supporting entrepreneurship education and encouraging innovation in his hometown. Pearson International Airport in Toronto, hosted by the Aviation Management Advisory Committee at Georgian College. This informative tour offered insight into the various career possibilities in aviation and provided a practical view of what the future could hold for graduates of Georgian College’s Aviation Management Program.

Summer Bly named to CCAA All Canadian team

Summer Bly taking a foul shotGeorgian’s Summer Bly was named to the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) All Canadian team, as the CCAA announced its major award winners at the women’s basketball national championship banquet held March 16 at Niagara College.

Bly, a 5’11” fourth-year forward, was the backbone of the Grizzlies’ offense and defense. She led her team in scoring, rebounding, blocked shots and steals, and recorded nine double-doubles this season. She averaged 15 points per game and 9.7 rebounds, while leading the league in blocked shots with 55. Read more...
